Hilltop Children’s Center opened in 1971, operating from Queen Anne Lutheran Church on the top of Queen Anne by church members needing after-school care for their children. Out of which was created Seattle Institute of Early Childhood Development, which remains Hilltop’s official organizational name though we do business as Hilltop Children’s Center.
Since around 2002, Hilltop Children’s Center has been inspired by the schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy, a movement that was teacher-driven.
In 2008, Hilltop moved to its current location at 4 Nickerson Street, Suite 100, Seattle, WA 98109.
Hilltop offers bright, curriculum-driven learning spaces and helps build a strong sense of community among children, parents, and staff.
Hilltop is a place where . . .
- Children are valued for their ability to do meaningful work, their sense of wonder and curiosity, their perspectives, and their ability to play
- Families are valued for their bonds and traditions, their ability to play, their commitment to work, home, and community, and their dreams for their children
- Staff are valued for their vision, their delight in children, their skill and knowledge, their commitment to families
We cherish what we learn from one another.
