Hilltop has leased the first floor of the 4 Nickerson Street building on the shipping canal between North Queen Anne and Fremont. Designing and building out space is always a challenge! Hilltop has had the good fortune to draw on the talents of Hilltop parents, board members and volunteers as we move forward with envisioning our new home.
The new space is designed to be open and flowing, giving teachers and children ample space to create and explore. As the schematic below shows you, the walls are designed to curve and flow. Each classroom will have its own art studio (the creative) and children’s bathrooms (the practical). Design features include a “living room” at the entrance to ease the transition from home to school, lots of windows and other translucent materials connecting the classrooms and greatly expanded space for collaborative projects. Our location adjacent to the ship canal will open up a world to explore for the children, and a new play area will look out on the water, trees and boats as they pass by.
